AI Pathfinder - Your Journey Map for Business Optimization (E-Book)

In this e-book, you'll learn how to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence to improve your business operational metrics - drive revenue, retain customers, increase efficiency.

AI has become omnipresent. We see it everywhere, in our business tools, in the news, and even at home. But, is it helping you, or hurting you? How do your employees feel about using AI? How do your customers feel when you use AI to interact with them? You might have implemented an AI solution to improve efficiency for your customers without realizing that human interaction is what got you those customers to begin with. Many businesses enter into a relationship with AI without thinking through the cultural and operational impact. AI Pathfinder equips you with the tools and knowledge you need to succeed on your journey.

This e-book will cover the following topics:

1.     AI Is Not New, It's Just The Latest Tool for Solving Problems

2.    Problem Solving By Changing Process Versus Product

3.    Areas of Business Impact

4.    AI Pathfinder™ Program Details

5.    Call to Action

Introduction

Welcome to the starting gate.

You may be reading this because, like so many others, you’re feeling pressure to “do something with AI”, but don’t know where to start. A McKinsey survey recently found that AI adoption has nearly doubled in the past year, and many business executives predict that AI will lead to significant or disruptive changes in their industries in the coming years. Another survey found that while about 75% of respondents experimented with generative AI in 2023, only 9% said they had adopted the technology widely.

Perhaps you’re reading this because your organization has a publicly documented strategy or initiative but has challenges with execution. A 2024 CIO report cited that “89% of respondents are actively looking for opportunities to incorporate artificial intelligence into their enterprise’s activities.” However, despite a significant increase in AI spending, many organizations struggle with implementation, user adoption, and demonstrating business value.

This can be problematic in a competitive environment. Another AI Adoption Study published last year that stated, “The performance gap between AI leaders and laggards has widened” since their initial study in 2021.

You might be in a competitive role, focused on driving revenue and customer experience, but your leadership is not supporting you.

For all these reasons, you came to the right place. AI Pathfinder is your Journey Map to help you get on the right course, identify your most important business outcomes, and leverage “AI” (aka “Artificial Intelligence”) and automation tools to help you transform your business and exceed your competition.

1.     AI Is Not New, It's Just The Latest Tool for Solving Problems

When thinking about Artificial Intelligence, we coach business decision makers to think about it not in terms of something new and therefore risky or unapproachable. In fact, AI has been around for many decades.

Brief History of AI

There was a major motion picture released with this title (“A.I. Artificial Intelligence”) over 20 years ago, in 2001, directed by Steven Spielberg. The film was loosely based on a 1969 science fiction short story.

Of course, AI wasn’t just a wild idea for science fiction writers, the story was based on what had already become modern practical science by that point. The concept of automation can be traced to Ancient Greece as far back as 400 BCE. Leonardo da Vinci wrote extensively about robotics, and evidence suggests that in 1495 he may have built a prototype of an automated “Germanic Knight”, which was replicated into a fully functioning autonomous robot in 2002 based on DaVinci’s sketches. In 1950, Alan Turing published “Computer Machinery and Intelligence”, which spawned a decade of development, including concepts and terms still used today such as “Artificial Intelligence”, “List Processing” (LISP), and “Machine Learning”. By 1965, scientists were programming AI to replicate decision-making abilities of human experts, and in 1979, the organization now known as the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI.org) was founded.

So, AI is NOT new. Why, then, does it seem like it’s suddenly the hot new thing? Why is everyone asking for it? And how do you take advantage of it?

We believe that the primary reason AI is on everyone’s mind is the relatively recent ubiquitous access to tools. With the rapid increase in processing power, generative and conversational AI, and Large Language Models (LLM) have developed very quickly and produced far more impactful applications. Last year, the IBM Global AI Adoption Index reported that 43% of companies cited “advancements in AI that make it more accessible” as a top factor driving AI adoption.

That same study cited that 42% of companies highlight their reason for adopting AI as a “need to reduce costs and automate key processes.” Thus, businesses are adopting AI for the same reason they have been adopting any innovation for thousands of years!

Still, these rapid advancements also make it difficult to keep up. The recent emergence of Agentic AI is rapidly moving to the forefront as the next evolution leveraging the advancements in Generative AI. The promise of Agentic AI is to operate autonomously, through a network of AI Agents that can make decisions and take actions without human intervention, so long as they are programmed properly and have access to an abundance of accessible data. Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, predicts that Agentic AI will, this year, enable complex execution of tasks with simple instructions. While this has benefits, it raises ethical questions about responsibility, accountability, and possible misuse. For people that are just getting started with AI, this can become overwhelming.

This is why AI Pathfinder starts with an understanding of YOU. What are your organization’s strategic goals? What makes you different from your competitors? Are you focused on generating more revenue, protecting your customer base, improving profitability, or driving a better customer experience? The businesses that are getting ahead with AI, seek to first answer these key questions, and then leverage AI to accelerate those outcomes.

2.    Problem Solving By Changing Process Versus Product

When we engage with a business, a university, or a government entity, we look at the following areas first:

  • What organizational strategies are tied to increasing revenue, reducing costs, and improving operational efficiency?
